Doorway / Gateway pages / Hidden links

Doorway pages are pages that are optimized for a specific keyword phrase for a specific search engine and linked to your main site. Caution, DO NOT try to spam a search engine, this is dangerous and could get you banned from the engine. A doorway page is a page that is filled with good content that can guide the search engine to the real
content of the site. By using the targeted keyword phrase in the appropriate areas and optimizing the page properly for the given search engine you are telling the search engine what the main product or purpose of the site is about. Doing this properly will improve your ranking. Consider registering another domain name that is keyword specific, this is the best way to
optimize for a higher ranking.
Submit doorway pages to the search engines except when using gateway pages. These pages are intended to obtain higher rankings and be read by the visitor as an entry to your site. Most search engines except this practice when done properly. Some large sites have so many products that it is hard for the search engines to get a handle on what exactly their site is about. This is a way to
help the search engines give the sites a proper ranking.

Gateway pages are pages that guide search engines to your doorway pages. These pages are intended more for the search engine than for the visitor. Sense some search engines seem to give higher rankings to pages that they think that they have found on their own. This practice offers the page to the search engine with all the relevant
information, keyword phrases, etc. it will then find the keywords that you have linked to your doorway pages and follow the link to that page. Sense this page has been optimized for the keyword phrases for the search engine it gives more relevance to the linked doorway page. Caution, sense this is generally a noindex follow links page, see Meta tags / Robots the content is
usually not intended for the viewer and often not as neat and organized as it would be if intended for the viewer. DO NOT spam the search engine.
When using gateway pages you submit the gateway page and not the doorway pages. It will take the spiders a little longer to find the doorway page but it will pay off with a higher ranking.
Caution: Badly made doorway and gateway pages may result in a web site being banned from some search engines, Alta Vista will ban your site if you spam it.

Hidden links is another way to guide a search engine to your doorway pages. You can put a one-pixel image at the bottom of a page on your site and link it to your doorway page and wait for the spider to find it and follow it to your doorway page. Another method is to put a keyword in the same color as your background (not recommend) and link it to the doorway page. Some
search engines will penalize you for spaming when using same color text, so make sure you change the text color slightly. Do not load your pages with same color text keywords. This is spam and could get you banned from search engines.
