Draft a plain. What is your site about? Example: You sell widgets. What keyword phrases do people use to find your product? You want to, if possible, to use your keyword phrase in your domain name, home page title, keyword and description meta tags. Example: widgets.com or widgetworld.com. Title: Widgets of all colors. Keywords:
widgets, blue widgets, red widgets,… Description: Widgets in all sizes and colors. Widgets for….. By using your keyword first in all of the above areas and using it at the beginning of your web site will increase your ranking in search engines. Directories such as Yahoo list alphabetically. If you already have a business name and can not work a keyword in consider registering an additional
domain name and linking it to your site. In general a domain name should be short, easy to remember, if you could use it on radio and people could remember it, know how to spell it, it is a good name. There are exceptions to short names, AsSeenOnTv.com sold for big money. Search for some names, choose one or more and get them registered.
-
Now that you have secured your domain names you can concentrate on building your site. Make a draft of the content theme. Choose a web design service or build your own site. Your site should look professional and be fast loading. Your main page should load in 30 seconds max on a 28K modem, 15 sec on a
56K modem. Lots of large pictures and animations can take to long to load, most visitors will not wait. Loud music with no control is a sure way to drive away visitors. Remember, you only have one change to make a first impression, make a good one and your visitors will be back. See Sure ways to IRRITATE YOUR VISITORS and drive them
